Default PR Card> Is it a must?

What if a landed immigrant who is living in Canada (Who landed in
April 2001) never applies for PR Card. Will he lose his immigrant
status as a Permanent Resident? Can he still apply for Citizenship
after completion of residencey period and meeting other residency
conditions. thanks

It remains to be seen. New Citizenship Act going through approval in the
Parliament (or it's Regulations) will most likely require to provide proof
of valid PR status with citizenship application. And since the
implementation of Immigration and Refugee Protection Act on June 28, 2002
the only legal proof of PR status is a PR Card.

More - there are many government institutions requiring proof of PR status
for some reasons and again, the only legal proof of such is a PR Card now.

PR "living in Canada"? Nice try - your IP address tells that you are
posting from US - NNTP-Posting-Host: 68.81.63.29

Don't be so hasty. As someone who's worked for
an Internet Service Provider, I definitely know that
things may not actually be they way that they
appear.

First, the person posting the question never said
that it applied to him or her. The question was
asked abstractly.

Second, a person could still be in Canada, but
be posting from an internet service or server
based in the United States. The company I work
for used to be the Canadian branch of a US based
internet provider. Because the Internet doesn't know
borders, very often the Internet service offered to
a US or Canadian city was actually provided by
Internet hardware on the other side of the border.

For instance, customers in Montreal, would dial up
to a local Montreal number that actually connected them
to an Internet server in Albany, New York.
Likewise, customers in Seattle, dialed a local Seattle
number but ended up connected to an Internet server
in Vancouver, BC.

Just because someone appears to be posting from a
US based IP address, doesn't necessarily mean that
they are in the US.
