Hindsight is a wonderful thing they say but we did so much research before we came and it still wasn't enough. We would never have signed up for this.
I still don't understand why they haven't just got a visa in their own right, like the IEC as Siouxie mentioned? Or a study permit if they want to go to uni? They'd be eligible for healthcare on those as well as being able to work.

It must be very frustrating for them, and I do sympathise, but I suspect I must be missing something, because I don't really understand why they're in that situation tbh.

We had our medicals in November 2013, paid for the PR cards in December 2013. Got a request to replace out-dated Criminal Record checks (they had expired in the massively long wait for the visas). Got them done and to the London office in January and received our PR cards on the last day of February 2014. It's been about 4 years in total. Meh!

I agree, they could have applied for IEC visas. My son went the IEC route, got 1 year of Canadian work experience, applied for 2nd IEC, then submitted an application for PR through CEC route last May. Monday of this week, PR papers arrived - 10 months from mailing application. Quicker than their current processing times - we're happy!
