I would appreciate it if someone told me where to go and what to do to get a police
clearance certificate in the Netherlands. I have to send it to the Canadian Embassy
in less than two months... Thanx in advance. Pavle.

Go to your local city hall and request a "Getuigschrift van goed gedrag". After doing
your background check (criminal records, or lack of), they will send you a document
in hopefully 3-4 weeks.

Good luck.

It takes 3-4 weeks in Holland? In Belgium I got it the same time I asked for
it. Took not even 15 minutes...guess countries are different on some simple things.

A few years ago I applied for a "Polizeiliches Führungszeugnis" in Germany. I had it
in the mail about a week later.

Default Police Certificate in the Netherlands

Hello,

Re these posts about the police certificate: when you went to the local city hall, did any of you have to "prove" that you had lived in the Netherlands?

The reason I am asking is that I am applying for French citizenship and have to get these certificates from Brussels, Florence and Amsterdam. In Florence and Brussels, the police just asked for my passport, checked me in the computer and gave me the certificate while I waited (there was no request to show a copy of my residency papers for when I had lived there).

In contrast, the town hall in Amsterdam said I had to be registered in their computers before they would give me the papers. And yes, while I did live in Amsterdam in 1992 and 1993 while I was in grad school, I never got residency papers because it was the year the Netherlands took in about 5000 Bosnian refugees. So the university just notified the police of our names and nationalities. The town hall in Amsterdam remembered this happening and admitted that there had been a lot of confusion back then and it was possible. But they won't even give me a letter explaining this that I could give to the French government!

I thought the police certificate was just a certificate of good conduct (that you haven't been arrested there, etc.), but the Dutch seem to think it's a proof of residency.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Is it the law like in Germany that you have to register where you live ? If
so you need a record of these times in order to maintain a record of the
countrys you've been living (not in cave in Afgahnistan !) they would like
to know where you have been ! I moved about 8 time and needed a record of
all this places from each city or town !
