Hello:
I have applied for immigration under the skilled worker category. In a post a few days back, Mr. Miller mentioned that to expidite the case it is better for Indian citizens applying at Buffalo to submit the police clearance certificates from Indian Police.
What have other people in similar situation done? I would appreciate if you could share your experiences in this matter.
Also, if it is prudent to get the clearance certificate before hand, what is the procedure for someone who is in the US to get a certificate from India. Is it true that I could get the clearance certificate from Indian consulate in the US?
Thanks in advance.
Raj.

Thanks Vimal. I will contact them for the details.
But the main question I have is "Is it required?" Will the Canadian consulate (Buffalo) at a later date ask me to get the certificates or will they do it themselves. What are other people's experiences in this matter?
Thanks.
Raj.

I donn't think its needed at all. They will do their own request & get the Police Certs from India. The reason is simple. Somwhow they feel applicants are submitting false police certs from india.

Hello,
When I interviewed at the LA Consulate in 1998, I was told by the Officer
that I spoke to that an Indian Police Certificate would greatly "help" the
Immigration Process. (I am from India, in case it is not obvious!)![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I got a Police Certificate from the Commissioner of Police from Madras (now
Chennai) and mailed it to the LA Consulate. (I was also asked to get a
California State Clearance Certificate, which I also obtained).

I was in India when I obtained it and so I don't know how exactly. But you
could try a few options. You can fax a letter to a relative in India along
with all non-blank pages of your passport, your address information for the
last 3/4 years, your date of birth, place of birth, your birth certificate
etc, and ask that relative to contact the local authorities. I don't know if
getting it from a police station will suffice. You may need to get it from
an office of some standing (such as the commissioner of police). At the risk
of maligning every Indian Police officer, they will expect some money.
Alternatively, you could talk to your consulate and see if they will help.
If the consular people in the Vancouver Indian Consulate are any indication
(suppressing the need to swear obscenely here) you won't get very far.
Cheers!
