Hi,

When my husband goes for a police check I heard you need to get one in all the places he has lived in the UK for more than 6 months. What we were wondering is how far back to we go time wise.. ex.. since he was born or since he was 18 living on his own .... any advice please .. thanks.

Yes, though the UK form does seem to ask for all addresses for the last 10 years.

I'm just curious now, my husband is in Canada still visitng me but we thought since we are putting the sponsorship forms together now as I am sponsoring him from abroad could he apply for his police clearance now in the uk? We also have no idea where he goes to get this police check done. Where has everyone else been getting their police checks done in the Uk? Is there a link for that? Thanks

For the police clearance check you fill in a form from the local police force, but you are checked against the national database, so you don't need to get different clearances from each area of UK. If you have lived abroad then you would need to get police clearance for each country lived in as well.

Quick question:

I know that criminal records and background security check are too different things. When do they take place during the application?

Criminal records are sent with the SW application.
Security check takes place after medical examination is done.

Is this right?

Not quite, the security check starts when the there is a positive Initial Assessment, depending on the countries where the person has lived, it could be well before the medical request.

Sorry, I don't want to hijack the thread...

... but on page 6 of the Immigrants Guide (IMM3999E) it says, "For the following countries, police certificates should not be obtained before applying for immigration. You may receive special instructions at a later date about police certificates for these countries." and United Kingdom is in the list.

So do you submit the "Person Record: Prosecution/Criminal History under Section 7 of the Data Protection Act, 1998" with an application for permanent residency, or not?

Submit it for all sponsored applications but NOT for SAP (Simplified Application Procedures)

Thanks, ours is a spousal sponsorship. I also read somewhere that the police certificate is only valid for 3 months - is that right? I have no idea when to apply for it...
