Question Police Certificates

Hi all,

Please excuse my ignorance here, but I have read many posts on these issues and just got more confused. I am Canadian and am applying in April '05 to sponsor (inland) my scottish girlfriend as we will have lived together for one "continous" year at that time.

She has lived in the UK as well as in Australia on a working holiday visa for a year so I'm assuming we'll have to get police certificates for her from those countries as well as the rcmp check here in Canada.

The current information package on the cic website for inland common law says not to get certificates for certain countries on a list which includes the UK and Australia.

MY questions are:

1) To be prudent, should she go ahead and get the certificates anyway to submit with the package in April so they don't cause delays later on?

2) Is it too early to go ahead and get certificates now as they will expire? I hear the rcmp check takes 4-5 months so I'd apply for that one in decemberish. I don't know how long the others take.

Thanks VERY much for your help!!!

I don't think it will pay you to try to outguess the CICs instructions. They try to be prudent themselves and not ask for things they may not need in many cases.
The PCs are usually valid for one year from the date of issue and they do not take 8 months to issue an RCMP certificate or even 5. It is usually about 2 months. Meanwhile, you wife will be with you so it is not going to keep you apart if they ask for them.

Thanks for the advise Jim. I guess we'll not worry about getting the overseas certificates then and just get the RCMP one a few months before we apply.
Thanks again.
