Are you serious? Changing your name on the passport when you got your PPR recently? I hope you have got it all confirmed that you absolutely have to do this.

The procedure is all laid out here:
http://www.hcilondon.net/passport/index.html#changeName

In case you wish to change your first name/surname or both your first name and surname, you will be required to place advertisements to that effect in a prominent daily newspaper of the area of your residence in the UK and a prominent daily newspaper of the area of your permanent address. You would be required to submit these advertisements (newspaper page) along with a sworn affidavit in the prescribed format. (Please refer to Note.3 on the above link/page).

In terms of time, as far as I know, if you go to personally submit your application, they have a quick turnaround (days).. via post, it is 4-6 weeks. Call them in any case to confirm (you may get through to them on the 20th attempt!).

Karanvir, I think you should speak to your consultant to get professional advice. Ask Mr Miller on this forum - he'd be able to advise you better on whether such a last-hour change in passport is going to cause any issues with CHC.

I'd reckon though that if you apply for an observation to be recorded in your existing passport regarding a change of name, it 'may' achieve the desired result without conflicting any of the information you have filled out earlier on the imm forms (i.e. the passport details - number, country of issue and date of expiry - would still stay the same).

Bear in mind you'll have to do everything quickly - advt in a newspaper where you live in UK, advt in a newspaper in your home town (India), affidavit, then submit passport and application with both ads and affidavit personally, then collect passport personally. And finally send the passport to CHC before their deadline.
