Default Please advise: timeline and security checks

Hello:

I am very disturbed nowadays about my future and have a few simple questions
to ask.
I came to Canada as an international student 5 years ago and am currently
working under the post-graduation employment till the end of this year.

I applied for PR earlier this year (i.e. Feb 2003) and got a letter of
acknowledgement back with the file # in May 2003.

Now, how long should i wait before i hear back from the immigration
officials about my assesment? My work permit expires in Feb 2004 and it
seems certain that i wont be getting an assesment before the expiration of
my work permit.

Also, it seems like most people are getting their PR in approximately 2
years. Does that include security check? I am from the middle east and am
wondering if it'll take more time for me than for others?

Please advice!!!!!

Thanks a lot in advance.

Assuming you applied in Buffalo, you probably won't hear anything more for
at least 18 months as a guess.

- Hi PMM:

Thanks for the response. I did send my application to Buffalo.
However, i thought that i would be receiving some sort of an assesment letter before my security check begins?? Am i wrong in assuming that, or is security check part of assessment?

The next thing you would receive is either a refusal letter, interview
waiver and medical instructions, or requirement for interview, but that is
going to a long way down the road. They will not start security until the
application is approved.

Hi pmm

I wonder if you can offer any advice.

we have been waiting 4 and ahalf months since our interview at the US London embassy. do you think that we would have been refused by now if we were going to be? and do you think we are waiting for the security checks? and would that be the final stage of our application?

thank you.
