planning move to Ontario

hi people!

i have been reading on this forum for months now and have finally decided to post.
i am 23 and my wife and I (wife as of next year :p) want to move to canada to start a new life for better opportunities and to get out of this country!
i am a welder by trade, i run my own fabrication company and restore classic cars and import classic cars into the country.
my wife is a sales assistant but hopefully will be doing an admin course soon.
i want to move over to Ontario and rent my UK house out to fund my Canadian house rent. (just because its easier that selling i think? and also i think i will have to move over on a temp work visa so i will have to have somewhere to come back to if i want to apply for PR) am i correct?

what are the chances of me getting a job offer as a welder and is the way i will have to do it?

any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

thanks in advance

Stu and Lou

Re: planning move to Ontario

:welcome: Stu,

First start with reading the wiki http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Category:Canada

http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Quick_...an_Immigration

http://www.ontarioimmigration.ca/en/

I am not familiar with the trade emigration opportunities but I can tell you that in case you get a work permit, then then you could apply for PR from within Canada and would not have to get back to your house in the UK.

Have a cuppa and a read and hopefully someone with some "trade knowledge" will be on soon.

Hey Stuart, welcome to the forum.

We applied for PR, but moved over on a TWP 3 months before it was through, so no problem selling up and moving over.

Depending on your finances, you might just need that house capital to get you set up.

Good luck on the start of your journey.

(we are also in Ontario and love it)

No worries, it didn't seem stupid at all :)

Re: planning move to Ontario

Does anybody know what welding qualifications (codes) i will need to get a job offer over there or does it just depend on what type of welding job it is like the uk? Also, is it just the high end jobs like on 'the list' that will allow you to get work over there or could i apply for say.. A cnc machine operator job? Because thats what i do here at the moment and i quite enjoy it.

Thanks for your help :D

You may be able to apply for PR under the skilled trade route... some more coffee and reading required!:

You will probably need to send your welding qualification paperwork away to one of the Canadian education authorities to determine what they cover.

You can just pay it off from Canada, so no worries. Just don't underestimate how much the move will cost, plus of course the $14k or so you'd need to show as proof of funds , so do factor that in to your calculations.

HTH, good luck.

In Ontario CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau ) is the governing body for welding. Let me know what type of welding you do and how much experience you have and i'll be able to give more info.

Re: planning move to Ontario

what about moving my company over there? i have my own fabrication company making aftermarket car parts and i also restore classic cars and import cars from the states to the uk too. could i move over there and start doing it there or would it be like America where i would have to employ a certain amount of people and bring over like £300,000?
i realise i would have to have alot of money to live off while building the business almost from scratch again but, is there any laws with an immigrant starting a business over there as it were?

thanks :) you guys are unbelievably helpful! :D
