Default Planning to move in 5 years

Hello

We're planning on moving to Canada in 5 years, once we've sorted out a few issues we have at home.

Do you think it is worth while putting in an application under the Skilled Worker category now or wait and try and get a job offer and move out on a WP or PNP?

Ideally we don't want to move out there without a job offer for one of us.

Thanks

If it was me i would put one in now, read the WIKI pages above its about 4-5 year wait now for skilled workers so yes i would put it in you never know when it will get even longer
If its not through by the time you want to go you could always look at going with a job

good luck

Yeah I know about the waiting times, if you have no arranged employment.

I don't really want to make the move with employment arranged.

It depends really on your jobs though - what sort of work do you both do? To get a job offer you need to have a fairly specialist skill as for a Canadian employer to employ a foreign worker they have to jump through a few hoops, wait for several months and spend money. Whereas they can employ a Canadian straight away without spending money and having to fill in lots of forms! So you need to have something special to offer to be sure of getting a job offer before you go, or to be in a job that is in demand. Otherwise you may just have to wait for pr and then go out and job hunt. You'll certainly find it much easier with pr in hand.

If I were you I would apply for PR as a SW now as it fits well with your timescales and then just apply for jobs in the meantime. If you get offered one then great, you can apply for a TWP and you've not lost anything, but if not, then at least you've got a fall back option. The last thing you want is to not find a job and then have delayed applying for PR. And don't forget that if you have PR as a SW, you don't have to go out there straight away to live - you can still go and job hunt and come home again, but at least with PR you'd have more chance. You don't have to go without a job offer even with PR if that makes sense?

Best of luck whatever you decide.
