Default Picking up Permanant Resident Visa by post

Hi guys. I am a british citizen visiting my canadian husband in vancouver and he has sponsored me too meanwhile as a spouse. The file is currently in London and we expect the file to be processed before my visit here is done. What we're hoping to do is save me the trip of going back to UK to pick up the visa once its ready.

I know we can get a representative pick up my visa on my behalf, and i have an aunt in london who can do that for me. Is it recommended that we post my passport to london to my aunt, who then goes and picks up the visa on my behalf and then posts the passport back to me? If the above goes through successfully, would it be okay for us to just drive into the USA, then drive back into Canada and then i can make an official landing?
