Default Permanent Resident Card renewal

Hi,
I've been reading that the wait for a PRC renewal is around 6 months,is it worth applying for the card 6 months early?
thanks.

Yes, if you want a renewed PR card in time.

But don't apply too far in advance! At the start of the web page 'Applying for a Permanent Resident Card (PR Card) ' is the warning 'Do not apply for a renewal of your current PR card if it is still valid for more than nine (9) months (270 days), unless it is due to a legal name change. Otherwise, your application will be returned'. In the 'gathering your Documents' section of the very same web page it says 'Do not apply for a renewal of your current PR card if it is still valid for more than six (6) months (180 days), unless it is due to a legal name change'. Hmmm.

Interesting - I'm sure that a month or so ago it said don't apply more than six months out in both places. I was wondering how CIC would deal with the lengthening processing time. It seems they've simply extended the deadline, but forgotten to update it everywhere on the website.

I'll be sending my renewal off soon; it will be interesting to see if it gets returned as it's outside the six month, but inside the 9 month window.
