Default Permanent Residency question, I may be eligible

Hello lovely people. I am currently in Edmonton on an IEC UK Visa (valid until November), and have been in full time employment with a huge global company called Weatherford for 3 months now. I am working as a metalworking production operator (welding reworks and operating a wide range of machinery making centralizers) in the Cementing division. At the moment I am working through a recruitment agency (Kelly services) but within the next month I am being signed onto the company as a permanent employee.

I am pretty sure that I qualify for PR as my work is on the nominated list. I shall list my details below.

Age: 27
Nationality: Irish and British passports (from Northern Ireland)
Qualifications: 8 GCSE's including Maths and English Language/Literature. 3 A-Levels. NVQ Level 3 in Motor vehicle paint & repair. NVQ Level 3 in Metal Fabrication & Welding.
Marital Status: Engaged to my long term girl who is also out here working in a Dental Surgery.

My long term plan is to gain my Red Seal / Journeyman status in Welding, I attended the Boilermakers union ARIS seminar last week but was turned away as to be legally allowed to work as an apprentice you need to be either a Citizen, Permanent Resident or a Landed immigrant. My only option now is to gain Permanent Residency and THEN get into the boilermakers. After reading the wiki page on semi-skilled worker criteria, I am almost completely sure that I am now eligible to apply for PR status, is this true?

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated, we are loving it here and don't want to go home under any circumstances!
