There is an alleged assault charge, which they both say was self defence from her throwing something at him.

Today he went to immigration for his PR card and was told that is application was on hold pending further information, which is the result of his case. He and his wife have the exact same story about the circumstances of the alleged 'assault', but the police are taking it very seriously, he was advised by them to plead guilty, he said it was really self defence, and now is worried that it will affect his application, since he was charged in 1992 with assault in his home country.

Can anyone advise as to whether this type of charge would affect his chances of becoming a landed immigrant? He has a wife and a child here with another on the way and is worried he won't be allowed to stay.
He was going to pick up his PR card?
So he has already landed? They usually mail the card out after landing. Doesn't sound right to me at all.

Sorry, he received the letter saying he was processed and had to go to the office for his interview with photos for his PR card.

If he had applied Inland, then he attends an interview to receive his COPR papers, his PR card is then mailed to him.

To be honest, this sounds like he has lost his PR status. The fact that CIC has picked up so quickly the arrest and DV charge, makes me believe that the police intend to charge, whether he pleads guilty or not. He will then be asked to leave Canada. When he can return I am not sure, but will probably be over 5 years until he is deemed rehabilitated.
