Default past employer

my husband is a fully time served mechanic and has worked for his current employer (local council) for more than 8 years, but when he left his past employer whom he sat his time with there was a bit of an upset as he had been there for roughly 11 years and they helped put him through his HGV, of which he paid back every week from his pay. Will we still have to put their details on application and contact them for refrences etc as my husband doesnt want to have anything to do with them as they wont even talk to him if they see him on the street. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Suggest:

Write formal letter to HR dept/manager.
Keep copy of letter and proof of postage (send recorded delivery).
Allow suitable length of time interval, resend reminder letter, keep copy of letter and POP.
If no reply, send letters as proof to CIC of request.
Send any job descriptions, employmkent contracts, letters of updates/contractual amendments/letters from HR dept as evidecne of employment.
Get bank statements showing proof of wages going to account over period of time (may have to pay for old statements if needed).
Get wages slips showing payment evidence.
Also ask former colleagues to provide reference/proof of employment.

And remember, employer does not have to provide reference under law but should provide a proof of employment (basic details, job, duration, salary) as basic principle of good business practice. But if not prepared to, do as much of above as possible to gain proof. CIC understands that occasionally there are problems/difficulties.

Good luck,

Rich.
