Default passport validity

Our family is expecting our passport request anytime this month or early April. Applied in 2001 and had interview and medicals last Oct.2004. My question is about the validity of our passports when we finally decide to immigrate to Canada. Their expiration date is March 2006. Do we need to renew before we submit them to the embassy or submit them as is? Please advise. Thanks so much and more power!

its better that u renew them on time! even if u are given the PR visa, it wont be valid after the expiry date of ur passport! even if u are given the visa before it, u will have to get it extended eventually anyways!! and in case ur case gets a bit delayed and u are issed a visa somewat near to ur expiration of passport date, then they wont issue u a visa until u get the passport renewed! so, its always a better option to get it renewed before the passport request! otherwise, u can always take a calculated risk......
cheers

Atm, my old passport was bound to expire this August 2005 so I decided to renew it last November 2004 without informing CIC Manila. I never bothered to fax a photocopy of my new PP to CIC Manila as per advise by my consultant. When the PPR arrived, I just send off my newly-issued passport via courier and it came back to me stamped with the visa.

The visa will not be valid beyond the validity of your PP. If you are absolutely sure (whatever that means) you will land before expiration of your current PP, you can wait and renew it after landing.

However once you have your visa in your old passport, there isno way you can transfer it to a new one. If you do not manage to land before expiration, you start from scratch.

thanks amancharan, centauri and mhhp for the info. if ever we get that pp request on schedule, we're planning to land by late August this year so I think that's enough time before our passports expire.
