Default passport request (buffalo) - SIN # - job hunting

Hello everyone. I've been reading the posts on this website since
applying for PR in Quebec, and basically from what I'm reading lately
is that, once you get your passport stamped, you are ok land in
Canada. My only question is this, I know that once you cross the
border you give a local Canadian address where they can send your PR
card (as per the CIC website), but what about your SIN number?
Naturally, I want to start job hunting NOW since I plan on moving for
June 1st, 2003 and have no way to job hunt or get an apartment without
a SIN #. Does anyone know how fast you get a SIN # after landing?
Thanks.

My timeline:
Applied for CSQ - June 21,2002
Interview for CSQ - October 21,2002 (received CSQ same day)

Sent PR application- November 20, 2002
AOR letter received- December 22, 2002
Notice of Assessment/Medicals received- January 9, 2003 (medicals
done: Jan 16)Landing fee $$ mailed to Buffalo- March 26, 2003
Passport Request Letter received- May 3, 2003

Hi Pascalle,

You don't need a SIN just to look and search for jobs, only when you are ready to be hired.
A SIN can be applied for at your nearest federal government office (listed in front of telephone book).
I was told that a SIN card can come in the mail in about 2-3 weeks.

Good luck,

Bradley.

Simply tell your employer you have HRDC receipt to confirm your eligibility
and then present
it to your employer when you received the SIN CARD

Thanks for the response. I sent my passport via USPS Express
yesterday, the USPS website confirmed that CIC Buffalo got my passport
this morning at 8am. Hopefully they can stamp it and send it back
quickly (i enclosed a self-address stamped Express Next Day envelope
for them). *fingers crossed* we'll see!

As for job hunting, yeah, I've already started to send my resume out
so hopefully I can move the very second I get my stamped passport.
I'll keep you guys posted! tHanks again! -P

Hello Pascalle:

All the best for your job hunting!

I have my CSQ interview next week and I wanted to know how was your interview and what were the questions asked? What was your level of French and how important was it in the interview?

Your inputs will be of great help to me.

Thank you
Bala
