Default passport renewal

We are currently waiting for our passports to be returned from London (we are in Ontario) with our PR visas. My question is, the PR is obviously valid for 5 years but our passports are only valid for another 3. When we renew our passports, can we transfer the visas or do we have to reapply?

The PR application was pretty good (applying to London from Canada on a work permit will have taken no more than 5 months, and that includes delays with the medical due to our less than efficient doctor). That said, I would be happier if I knew for sure the PR is valid for the full 5 years, not 3.

Can anyone help? Thanks!

PR is valid in perpetuity provided the applicant meets the continuing presence rule of 2 full years physical presence in Canada out of each rolling 5 years following landing so there is no problem,

The visas are single entry, so after that are irrelevant. Your PR documentation takes precedence after landing, provided your passport is still valid.
