Parent Sponsorship
Anyone out there putting an application in for parent sponsorship when the door opens again on 4th Jan 2016?
I am very realistic about our small chances of making it in under the 5,000 limit, never mind the length of time the entire process will take, many hoops and hurdles to be overcome during that time etc etc. I've told myself and my parents it's a one in a million chance.
My situation is that we (family of 4) emigrated to Canada eight and a half years ago and have settled in very happily. We've both found work that we enjoy, the kids are happy and life for us is better than it was in the UK. The downside is that the relationship my parents have with my brother and his wife back in the UK has deteriorated during that time. It was always turbulent but has become increasingly bad in recent years. It's horrible to hear reports of arguments and insults from all parties from afar and to have to listen to your parents upset on the phone. I never know quite who to believe and what to make of it all. I guess I've always had a bit of a peace maker role in their relationship and now that I'm not there things have gotten more out of hand. My dad worries about my mum being "stuck in the UK" in her old age and bullied by my brother if something should happen to him first. It's really all rather horrible. I bear a lot of guilt over this because if I was there maybe things wouldn't be so bad.
Luckily, my parents are comfortable enough to be able to spend the maximum 6 months in every year as tourists in Canada. For now that's okay, but long term the supervisa or ideally sponsorship would give them more options.
Family - the silliness doesn't stop even when you emigrate.
Anyway, good luck to anyone else submitting an application.
