Our son and daughter are Canadian citizens and PR respectively. They would like for us to move out there and one of them will sponsor us. I know they have to be financially responsible for us, although we are ok for money, but my worry is that in the future if anything happened where one of us had to go into a care home, would that financial burden fall on my kids?

From the official websiteThe undertaking commits you to:
- providing financial support for your sponsored family members for 20 years, starting when they become permanent residents
- repaying any provincial social assistance (money from the government) your sponsored family members get during that time

Thank you for your quick reply. Would we need to get medical insurance if we went ahead?

Once they become permanent residents in whatever Province they move to and start being covered by that Provinces healthcare they will be covered for whatever that Province covers. You can elect to take out other insurance that covers items that the Province does not cover.
