Options for PR- Any help appreciated!!
Hi and sorry if this is available on a different thread but this is my first post.
I have been in Canada on the IEC program now for 6 weeks and have managed to get a job as a retail manager for a small sports store doing between 30-40 hours per week. It specialises in racquet sports which I have also coached for numerous years. The issues I have are;
Would this position be strong enough to apply for my PR after a year to get the ball rolling?
I know many would ask if a canadian could do my job but as its linked to my coaching qualifications I feel that this may stand me in good stead.
Also do I need a contract to be signed for the store with a certain amount of hours guaranteed and do the government look for minimum hours worked per week when considering applications?
Thank you

Hi, and welcome to BE.
It's a bit hard to tell if you'd qualify for PR without more info. You mention the job and ask if it would be a strong enough position to apply for PR after a year - so I'm assuming you're looking at the CEC program?
If so, then yes it would qualify, but you'd need to check your points score on the CRS and make sure that you'd be scoring enough to be selected from the pool and invited to apply for PR (about 450-480 as a minimum), as well as meeting the other criteria.
If not, then you'd need to look at other visa options, such as PNP or getting a LMIA, to get your points score up.
There's no requirement to prove that your job can't be done by a Canadian for that program btw, that's only for LMIA's. And for the number of hours, you'd have to prove it and the duties of your job via various things including a reference, your contract, and payslips.
HTH a bit.

I think PNP would probably be your best option. It depends what province you are in, but Manitoba and Saskatchewan offer people like you the chance to apply for their PNP as experience class after 6 months of working in their province.

Thanks for the responses on the post. Im living in Toronto. Would I need a contract to be done for evidence or would the word of my employer be satisfactory enough for this?
Thanks

The word of your employer wouldn't be acceptable (after all, anybody could get a mate to vouch for them!), you'll need proper documentation, including a contract as well as a reference from your employer on company letterhead. The reference must detail your duties, as well as how many hours you work, your title, salary etc.
HTH.

Great, thanks for the help so far?
Is there a minimum salary you need to be earning along with minimum hours? I am guessing part time hours don't get you what you need so what is classed as full time. Im hoping to go down the CEC route if possible but know I will have to take an English exam for it which is fine as I am English what else will I need?
Thanks Again

Hi, I think you might be confusing a PR application with obtaining a LMIA (in that you mention minimal salary requirements and proving whether a Canadian can do the job). These are both factors for an LMIA supported TFW work permit but not for PR.
Your eligibility for PR is all based on whether you quality for entry into one of the programs covered under EE and can then obtain sufficient points on the CRS system to make it likely you would be selected from a pool of other candidates (450-480). If you don't have the required points the next step would then be PNP for Ontario and see what they require.
