Exclamation Open Work Permit via spousal application

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew whether I am able to apply for an open work permit as the spouse of a Canadian citizen. I have applied for and am currently awaiting my PR (through the in-Canada class). Also, if I can get some kind of permit would this make me eligible for OHIP?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance for any advice!

Nope, only spouses of those on study permits or TWP's are entitled to a SOWP.

Your spouse can sponsor you for PR, but that's the only right being married to a Canadian gives you are far as visas go I'm afraid.

In Canada spousal applicants can apply for an open SOWP with their in=Canada application, but it will not be issued until they receive Approval in Principle.

Never knew that, thanks PMM. Does that not apply to outland sponsorship cases too then?
