I ordered a marriage certificate online (Service Ontario) and received what is basically a copy of our marriage licence with the registration and certification signatures. Does anyone know whether this is enough for a spousal application or do I need the other kind of certificate? I rang Service Ontario and the guy said this was called the 'long form' and should be sufficient. I don't know whether to be on the safe side and order the other type too.

If it looks like the document you signed when you got married then no it is not sufficient.

The marriage certificate is a different document. They get sent out by the Registrars in Thunder Bay if I recall correctly. The guy in Service Ontario might not be completely correct in his information.

I had to order twice to actually get the right document in my hand.

This is annoying. There is an online ordering service for 'marriage certificates', a government site. You would think that they would send the correct document.
