Default Offshore pipefitter looking to make the move, any advice welcome!

Hi. I am a plumber to trade and currently working as an offshore pipefitter. I'm looking for some info from anyone who has been in a similar position and managed to immigrate. Using the CRS tool, my points are quite close to the cut off point (although I haven't had my ECA done yet and IELTS is booked for this month) so I'm just inputting what results I think/hope I will get for these. Looking for any similar stories, help and advice please. Cheers.

bit of background - I'm 34, married, 2 young kids and from scotland

By cut off what points score are you referring to?

I suspect you are looking at the cut off for FSW category. However as a plumber you can qualify for FST category which has a lower score requirement. Details are here:

1/ The OP should note that there only 2 draws (I believe) for FST during 2018.

No ECA is usually required if you are applying under FSW (Trades) - but you may need to either get a job offer or get your Provincial Certification - Plumber is a Regulated Trade in Canada - as is Pipefitter, - you get extra points once you have one or the other . You can apply to challenge the certification if you have provable work experience (usually around 9500 hours) - check each Provincial Governing Body link (in link below) and search "International - equivalency / Certification Based on Work Experience" or similar.

Plumber: https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/marketreport/requirements/4747/ca?source=11
Pipefitter: https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/marketreport/requirements/21460/ca?source=11
As an example, here's Alberta: https://tradesecrets.alberta.ca/expe...ional-workers/

Which Province(s) were you considering? Have you looked into Provincial Nomination as well?
