Hi there,

I have just been reading a different posting which was advising someone to get to NZ and apply for Skilled Worker Route from there as the wating list SHOULD be shorter....Would this be true?

Not really, see London and compare to Sydney http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/informa...d-fed.asp#asia

Reality is it took us 5 weeks to get a WP AND the medical processed, not the minimum anticipated 3 months +. There are simply fewer applications going via Sydney and Singapore (meds), far fewer than London. So stats are stats, for us it was very fast. As for PR, cant give any indication there, as we went WP route then hope to get fast tracked PR in Canada, but I cant see why the same cant be true on some level for PR too. Sadly, it is the far longer route to get in, going for PR - though there cant possibly be the same volume of applicants going through Sydney as there is via London?

We live in NZ and they only process PR through the skilled worker route in Sydney, Australia. I spoke to them yesterday and they advised me the processing time was 36 months. Which I understand is faster than London.

Except that there is fewer CHC employees in Sydney, so the volume per officer is about the same.

You don't need a job offer for a skilled migrant PR. I have read that its better to lodge that first, then look to get a job offer so you can qualify for a TWP, which will take approx 6 months. Hopefully quicker.

You'd need to be admitted to NZ for 12 months+ or be a New Zealand citizen in order to apply to Sydney (same goes for any other country in Sydney jurisdiction).

It would be a good idea to become a New Zealand citizen if contemplating this for the future.

Not only would it mean you can easily come back, but if you do want to apply to CIC Sydney it would be better to do so as a New Zealand citizen than as a foreigner living in NZ (better indication of settlement potential).
