Default Nova Scotia average wage?

Hi

Does anyone know what the average hourly wage might be in Nova Scotia. I've been offered a job at $14 per hour.

I know NS don't pay as much as, say BC, but that seems a little low?

Any advise gratefully received, cheers

This might help, might not, its a bit hit and miss

My feeling is the for an experienced Graphic Designer $14 an hour is not all that great, but there are worse salaries out there.

Google throws this up

Still, if it gets your foot in the door....

Below average but you might just about be able to get an LMO. Worth a try certainly.

Going with NOC code 5241: http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/...spx?val65=5241

This might help. http://www40.statcan.ca/l01/cst01/labr69d-eng.htm

That said, it depends on your own comfort level. If you need a foot in the door, then treat this as such.

Yes, that's what I thought - foot in the door.

Just want to make sure CIC won't reject it - taking the view that it’s not enough for a person to make a worthwhile contribution to the local economy? Does anyone know of any official guidelines about this?

The official guidelines are that you shouldn't be undercutting what a Canadian should earn, but ultimately whether you are or not is up to whoever assesses how you fit in the Labour Market at Service Canada (or wherever). I don't think they use any mathematical equation based on the average wage or anything like that. You don't appear to be earning a great deal less than average so it will probably be acceptable.

It won't be CIC directly that rejects it, if you're going the AEO route you have to get an approval letter from HRSDC.

According to this - http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/rep...l&display=wage - it is rather low and I would guess HRSDC would not issue an LMO because of that. You would need to persuade them to push the figure up, to be more in-line with the Provincial average.

I do think it's low and in danger of rejection. I need to work on the potential employer and get that salary up a bit. How I'm going to do that, I don't know but it's just another obstacle, one of many, I've faced so far but I'll get there...just keep going...

Thanks all for the advice, much appreciated.
