Not moving for a while but ...
... I could do with some advice if anyone can help.
Im looking to take my Masters Degree at the University of Ottawa, with a view to becoming a permanent resident in Canada upon completion of the course. I have looked at the Immigration forms and frankly my head is spinning. COuld anyone tell me if I can become a permanent resident with a study visa?
Thanks

I believe that so long as your course is at an approved institution in Canada when you complete it you can apply for an open work permit. The length it's issued for depends on the length of your course and the permit allows you time to gain the Canadian work experience needed for you to apply for PR under CEC class.
I don't know if there is another way you can jump straight from study visa to PR but someone else might be able to adivse.

Your best option would be the Canadian Experience Class route:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/index.asp
Its designed for people who have experience living and working in canada, the down side is it requires you to of graduated from a canadian university with two years of study and a years work experience.
I imagine your course is only one year which will cause you problems.
