New baby
We are landed permanent residents (Dec 2005) and where planning to relocate end October so that our baby can be born in Canada but the baby came early. Now we are making new arrangements to move in Dec how do we travel with our new baby who is obviously not yet a permanent resident.

I've seen experts on the immigration say that those children who need a visa to enter Canada will not likely be given one whilst waiting to be sponsored, but if the child's nationality is a visa waiver one, it doesn't seem to be a problem to enter as a visitor. I don't know about healthcare and so on whilst they're waiting in Canada for PR to be granted...

Don't understand. You're landed (Dec 2005) but you were going to relocate end of October? Where have you been since you left Canada and how long were you away? Did you ever live here?

To quote from the Canada Immigration website:-
"A permanent resident is a person who has immigrated to Canada. To keep permanent resident status, a permanent resident must live in Canada for at least two years in a five-year period".
If you have never lived here you may experience some problems. Hope not.

The only problem they may encounter is that if they landed in Dec 2005 then their 5 year period is up in Dec 2010 - and they have to have spent at least 2 years out of that period in Canada to maintain their PR status. It means that they need to make sure they are in Canada by December 2008 to stand a chance of getting those 2 years (730 days to be precise) before Dec 2010.
Which means that they won't be able to leave the country again otherwise they won't qualify - so what happens if there is a family emergency or similar and they want to return to the UK? Something for them to consider anyway.

Shouldn't make any difference, they will have activated their PR status by landing (so are deemed to have immigrated already).

Re: New baby
Thank you for all your replies. We were in Toronto for 3 months in 2007 actually to have our second baby and also to have a feel of Canada. We liked it but had to leave cos we didn't have a job in Canada yet. So we have till march 2008 to stay outside of Canada.
If we take the Sponsoring route , that will take 6-12 months and that time we dont have. We are not from a visa waiver country so we need a visa for our baby if we decide to take that option, but will it be granted?

Re: New baby
I presume you mean March 2009
Why are you looking at it from the point of view of how long you can stay out of Canada for? You went to the effort of being in Canada for 3 months to have your second baby, why then leave again and get 'caught out' when your next child was born abroad? It seems like you want to cut everything very fine right down to the wire. Why are you only looking into this now at the 11th hour?
I hope you work it out but it seems very strange...

Re: New baby
We booked our tickets for 29th 0ct and my due date was dec 24th, so the baby was to be born in Calgary but he came early ( 16th Oct) and doing fine . We didn't plan to be in this situation but since it happened that way we are now looking for a way forward.

I wish the federal government will tighten the rule to enforce those who applied to be permanent residents but have no intention to become so.
Lebanon had cost us the taxpayers an arm and a leg. Those abusers don't deserve anything from Canada, not unless they live in Canada and pay our taxes.

Re: New baby
When you become permanent resident, its not easy/straight forward to just pack your bags and go live in Canada without a job. In other not to loose the status we intend for me to go to canada with the kids while my husband still works aboard , this wont be easy but we have no choice. For the past 3 years he has being looking for a job without a break thru.

I can't believe he's spent 3 years trying to find a job without success!! Has he been looking 'properly' (by that I mean the Canadian way i.e. actually getting over there, meeting people face to face and networking??). Has he read the Job Hunting section of the Wiki (on blue bar at top of page)?? If not then get him to sit and read every article in it asap.

Re: New baby
How long does it take if one parent goes to Canada to start the sponsoring of the baby?
