So its been a long time since posting here as things were going well till my wife decided we needed to return to the UK! The tricky part now is Citizenship.

Summary of what has occurred is:

1st child born in UK Jan 2007
Moved to ottawa on TWP 6 weeks later.
2nd Child Jan 2010
Got PR Aug 2010 due to multiple work permits.
Traveled a lot in US for work and only now Eligible to apply for Citizenship due to residence.

Heading back to UK in next 3 weeks

Reason for wanting to apply is currently have one child UK citizenship and one Canadian and can see the pain in 20 years when one can just move over here and the other is stuck in UK. (and never know whats round the corner)

Canada post redirection only lasts for 12 months.

Anyone applied and moved to UK?

It would make sense to obtain your Citizenship (as your non-Canadian child would automatically obtain it too), do you have a good friend that would be willing to have you put down their address as your residence whilst you are waiting for the Citizenship application to be processed?

Leaving it to the vagaries of forwarded mail would be risking things somewhat.

You need to consider that they may request further documentation; that you are likely to get short notice of the Citizenship Test and Ceremony, so you would need to receive them quite quickly (hence 'good friend' who could open it to check for you).

I see the last line of the Wiki is

"In practice, it is almost unknown for anyone to successfully become a Canadian citizen by grant (through the normal process requiring 3 years residence) if such person leaves Canada before becoming sworn in as a Canadian citizen."

So does not sound overly hopeful.....
