Default need help regarding process time

Mr. Miller,

1. I passed my interview in LA in the middle of September, 2002, and
at that time my wife was pregnant. Then I submitted the required
documents after the baby born and my representative also changed the
contact address to my home address. We took the baby to do the
physical examination in the middle of March 2003. One week later the
doctor send the report to Canada. Till now I did not receive anything
from LA Consulate yet, and my address is not changed in the cic
website. How long for them to process my case generally? And what
should I do now?

2. I have an emergency and need to go back to my country. Can I still
send the passport to LA Consulate if I am not in USA? Or I need to
tranfer my case to the Consulate in my country?

Thanks very much for your time,

Gluc

1. Looks like your background/security check is not completed yet. You
didn't tell us what is your nationality and in what countries you and/or
your spouse lived beside US and your home country - thus it is impossible to
give you any estimate time frame for the completion of this task.
Background/security check may take anywhere from few months to well over a
year to conclude.

2. It depends from the law of your country. In some countries (India for
example) it is illegal to mail or courier their passport into or out of the
country. As far as Canadian consulate in US is concerned they don't care how
your passport gets there, but they will send it back only to US or Canadian
address.

Dear Mr. Miller,

Thanks very much for your reply and your time. I am Chinese and
currently my fimily and I live in USA. We did not live in any other
country for over six months besides China and USA.

My Case:

Sep. 25, 2002 I passed my interview in LA in the middle of
September, 2002,
and at that time my wife was pregnant.
Feb. 2003 I submitted the required documents after the baby
born.
Mar. 14, 2003 We took the baby to do the physical examination.

And we did not recieve any notice that we are in background/security
check. Should we get a notice for background/security check? Do you
know generally how long it will take if there is no
background/security check on my case applied in Los Angeles? Can I
send a fax or e-mail to ask the LA Consulate about my case status?

2. If we go back to China, we will get a stamp on the passport for
entering China. Then is it OK we send our passports to LA Consulate
from China with the stamp? I still can let them send back my passport
to the my current US address.

Thanks and best regards,

Gluc

In such case don't expect background/security check to be completed in less
than a year, as China is one of the slowest country for this task.
