Where do I apply for the Social Security card when first land in Toronto? How long
does it take to recieve it? Is it sent to me by mail?
I intend to leave Canada immediately for a short period of time right after recieving
all the neccessary documents. Are there any additional must have documents I should
apply for?
Thank you

At a local HRDC office. The list of offices, working hours, forms etc are
available at

It takes between 4 and 6 weeks to get it. And yes they mail out the card to the
address you give them on the application.

Definately OHIP. OHIP kicks in 3 months after you apply, so you should apply for it
as soon as possible. You might also want to open up a bank account, and for that you
should do some shopping, as different banks have different rates and fees for the
services they give you, and you need to pick one that suits your banking style.

Sophie,
Keep in mind when applying for the OHIP card, they will want a permanent address, in
Ontario, Not just a P.O. box.
Good luck,
