Default Mr Miller, questions concerning the conjugal partner visa

Mr Miller,

You come highly recommended by a friend of mine who is a regular
visitor to this group. He told me that you could possibly answer my
questions.

By the way, I have tried calling Immigration Canada, but it is always
busy (and very frustrating). I live in Québec and am a canadian
citizen. I work full time and have a good salary. I have been in a
relationship with a british citizen since October 2001 and we now want
to settle down. I am in my later 20's and so is he. I qualify to
sponsor him. We want to get married, but when marriage will be only a
celebration of our love, with no "immigration" ties to taint the day.
We don't qualify for the common law visa as we haven't lived together
continuously for a year. He did come to Québec 3 times (2 weeks, 1
month and 6 months) and I have been there 3 times (2 weeks, 2 weeks
and 6 weeks). We decided on settling here because I have more ties to
Québec and a more stable job position. After reading on the CIC
website, I think we qualify for the conjugal partner visa. We have
immense proof of the validity of our relationship. We don't think he
is eligible for the skilled worker in Québec because of his poor
knowledge of French.

My questions are as follows:

- Can my partner be here in Canada as a tourist as we apply for the
Visa?

- Does he have to have his medical in England or can it be done here?

- Do his parents need to get their police records also, even if they
are not immigrating, or is it only my partner that needs this
document?

- How long are the delays for this type of application?

- What are the chances of him being called for an interview and how
long into the process does the interview usually take place?

- If he gets the Visa without needing an interview, must he go back to
England to then reenter Canada and land, or can he do it via the
United States?

Thank you ever so much if you can help me. I will continue trying to
get through to the CIC call center, but I don't have much hope.

I think For Conjugal Partners you have to apply abroad. ( I'm not sure
experts please clarify)

- Does he have to have his medical in England or can it be done here?
Medicals can be done in anywhere.

- Do his parents need to get their police records also, even if they
are not immigrating, or is it only my partner that needs this
document?

Only your parter.

- How long are the delays for this type of application?

It depends upon workload of London CHC and your parter background checking
from all the coutries where he resides more than six months.
expect anywhere from six months to 1 yr.

- What are the chances of him being called for an interview and how
long into the process does the interview usually take place?

If CHC feels that the relation is not geniune then they will call for
interview.

- If he gets the Visa without needing an interview, must he go back to
England to then reenter Canada and land, or can he do it via the
United States?

If you can apply in canada then no need to go back.

Thank you ever so much if you can help me. I will continue trying to
get through to the CIC call center, but I don't have much hope.

Sophie
