Default Moving to Toronto in Oct - Totally Unprepared!

My employer is relocating me out to Toronto next month and at this stage I am still waiting for a work visa, I need to sort out a SIN and bank account and my employer is (I hope!) going to put me up in a furnished apartment until Christmas to sort everything out. I should be getting a relocation allowance from them and also some settlement services (TBC)

I have visited Toronto a couple of times this year and was surprised just how expensive it seemed, house rental $3,000 per month + in a decent area (we quite like Riverdale and I will be working downtown and travelling too, I would also welcome some advice on getting a car - I've been told leasing is a good option especially if you use it for work you can offset against your tax return but insurance sounds really expensive (I' ve been told to expect $2,000+ pa)

Any suggestions would be appreciated as would suggestions where in Toronto they show the EPL, serve decent beer, get a good curry, how to access UK TV channels etc. I am real greenhorn at the moment so please help!

Thanks
Spikey
