Thank you so much for your advise. I will defently continue research and hopefully visit next year and do some investigations, if it's alot of uncertainty about shifts and away from home the kids won't cope. I have always worked shifts but they know what I'm doing in advance and I'm always there in the morning or at night. The don't cope very well with us not being there unexpectedly so if it's over night bunking etc that would be a deal breaker. I can adapt to almost anything but kids are always the priority.

You'll only find out by talking to the company. However Canada is a big country (BC is 4 times larger than the UK), overnights or several overnights would be highly likely.
Found this, although it relates to new hires that are not experienced operators.

Thank upi again for the replies. I'm use to 24-7-365 that's never been a problem. In England I do know my days off for the year, I also know if I'm working earlies or lates. We work 36 hours a week on a 4 day week basis. We have 9.5h spare turns but you can be launched any time in that window but have to be finishes within the window. I know our conditions are very good. The Company I work for have some of the best in the country. I don't mind giving them up for the right move. But been away for days and not seeing the kids every day at some point won't work, especially with there complex needs and being in a new country. It looks like the Canadian railway may not work for our family. Thank you again for your time.
