take a deep breath ,now your husband will need a positive lmo, then when he gets that you can apply for permanent residence about 5 year waiting list.or go down temp work permit route and apply for permanent residency whilst there about 1-2 year wait .i would also get police checks done whilst waiting for lmo as the wait for these is around 40 days ,oh and well done and good luck

Hi Gemma,

Have a really good read of the 'Wiki' at the top of the page, that should tell you everything you need to know. As pp said, your hubby will need to get his employer to get an LMO which basically proves that there is no Canadian that can do the job so that they have to employ him. You can then apply for a temporary work permit, and travel to Canada on that (you and children can accompany him on that). Then once there you apply for permanent residency.

We're doing the same, and we're just going to rent our house out, but we're not planning on emigrating permanently, just for a few years and as we live in a very, very expensive part of the UK we don't want to get off the housing ladder and want something to come home to.

Do read the Wiki as it will tell you everything you need to know about the process, and about other things that you'll need to know about such as schooling for the kids etc. And have a good browse of the forum as there will be lots of questions answered.

Whereabouts are you planning on going?

Best of luck.

Very good question! We don't know yet, hubby has been offered several jobs over the past couple of years in Canada and it's only now that we've decided to go for it. So we're looking at several areas, probably either Alberta, Nova scotia or New Brunswick as those are the areas we both like the sound of most at the moment. He's lucky as he's in demand so he can pick from several jobs and most of them he can choose from various office locations across Canada.

Best of luck, hope the Wiki answers your questions as I know how daunting it all is but it's amazing how quickly you'll pick it all up and everybody here is so helpful with any questions you have.
