Dear Group,
Which city will be better to live in, keeping all things in mind now
and in ling run? I want all group members to participate, advise and
share their experience so that new immigrants do the right decision.
Also what if a person has CSQ , but he/she wants to change his/her
destination to Toronto. Will it be a wise decision to leave Montreal,
Quebec and reside in Toronto? Please Comment.
I am in a difficult situation and need to decide in few days.
Thanks.
Sair.

Why Montreal or Toronto? Why not Winnipeg? Or Saskatoon? Or
Whitehorse?

My advice is to go wherever your chances of finding a job in your field are
better. Right now, the employment situation is quite bad here in Toronto,
although not all sectors are equally affected.
On the other hand, T.O. has an Asian majority population, so if you came
from that part of the world you may be able to integrate and network easier.
Practical issues aside, Montreal is a beautiful, charming city, whereas
Toronto seems a rather nondescript place. But as they say, beauty is in the
eyes of the beholder...

Most government services are offered in both English and French in the
Montreal region, and the government gives immigrants 1000 hours of
French language instruction if you've been in Canada fewer than five
years. Yes, you can get your driving licence in English.
Basically:
Toronto and Vancouver are extremely expensive, and wages don't
necessarily make up for it. Montreal is relatively cheap, but it has
a housing crisis (very few apartments available for rent), lower wages
and language issues.
Personally, from a job/housing/cost of living perspective, I suspect
you would be better off in a smaller city like Calgary, Edmonton,
Winnipeg (winter is extremely cold there) or one of the smaller cities
in Ontario (though maybe not Ottawa).
There is always a trade-off. People vote with their feet by choosing
the big cities. I came to Montreal to learn French, but even after
two years studying French I am finding it very difficult to find work.
I am seriously considering leaving Montreal, but I wouldn't move to
Toronto.

I am seriously considering leaving Montreal, but I wouldn't move to
Toronto.

I guess partly because I happen to live in Ottawa,
I'm wondering why you said "maybe not Ottawa".
True, housing prices are going up here, and the
winters are colder than Toronto and Vancouver,
although pretty much on par with Montreal and
not as cold as Calgary, Edmonton, and Winterpeg.
But, it really is a nice city in which to live.
I just spent nearly two weeks in and around Toronto
and the crowding there is so bad.
What's your reasoning on Ottawa? Just wondering
