Default Methods of payment

Has anyone paid by certified check or bank draft the first part of the process (CAD$ 550 per applicant).

I wanted to pay by credit card but I am afraid that the charge is reject for any reason.

Thanks

Two questions from me:
1) Which method for payment is best?
2) When an application is considered as Received, as soon as received OR when fee is transferred to the official account? Please explain this consequence.

Thanks & Regards

Hi - yes we are paying by banker's draft for $1,100 (for myself + wife) for the same reason. Credit card companies are notorious for random security checks/refusals and as I understand it the CIC will only attempt to take payment once, if that fails they just fail the whole thing.

Interestingly, the woman at the bank when I ordered my draft said that the funds would not clear until CIC cashed the cheque, but the bank took our funds right away. This is no problem for us since the funds were there anyway and we now don't have to wait for them to clear, just hope they don't try charging us again when CIC cash the cheque!

Wayne.

We're just about to send off our Federal app. and I'm going to order a bank draft today. I've read a few stories on here where people used a credit card and the credit card company refused payment for random reasons... don't want that to happen!

bankers draft - a pain in the ass, need to go to the bank, pay upfront, but safer as it's been 'bought'

credit card - convenient, but credit cards HAVE been known to be declined on security checks (VISA/Mastercad etc)

THB, I'm really surprised HSBC didn't decline my payment with a security check....they seem to decline everything I do with it

Thanks for reply.
But my second question.
When an application is considered as "Received and given file number"?
a) Soon as received OR
b) When payment is transferred to official account?. Which takes few days after receiving the application packet by CIO.

Thanks

We paid by banker's draft from HSBC. It took nearly a week to get it but we ordered it on a Friday of a Bank Holiday weekend. Because we paid this way, we didn't have a Client number or Reference number until a month after we applied. We got a letter saying I was approved as a sponsor which had the number on it.
