Hi
I have seen plenty of comments about Breast exam during medicals on here and smears if you can't prove you have recently had one......so don't worry it is the norm

yes. quick check for lumps , nothing major. However if doctor was male , I would have expected you to at least be offered a chaperone.

No I didn't need a breast exam. One practice was adament that I would have to undergo a smear test. I booked into a different Dr who said that a smear test was not neccessary.

As it was I had no breast check or smear and received our pr visas without any problems.

I think some are not properly conversent with current rules and others want to justify a greater cost for the medical.

I'd have thought any opportunity to get one's bits checked out is a good thing.

Much better than the alternative and done far more frequently in other countries...

When I had my medical, the doctor told me breast exams were only for older women (45+). As for smears, I brought along a copy of my most recent smear test results and she was happy enough with that.

I think I read somewhere that smears/recent results were only required for ladies over 35??

That is what I was told too. I presented my last result and that was fine.

I had a medical in Canada. I had a breast exam but she didn't ask about smears (or rather pap!) at all and I wasn't going to mention it either!
Medical passed and PR received/landed in May

What you need to realise , is that the guidelines for the medical exam are exactly that "guidelines". Doctors , like any other professionals will use there own professional judgement on what they consider appropriate. After all they are being asked to provide evidence about your medical suitability for immigration, the guidelines give them the scope for this but do not dictate exact practice.

We had our medicals last week. No mention of smears or breast exam. Just a few questions about my stomach prob! Prodded our tummys tested the reflex in our ankles, weight and height and blood pressure and then blood tests! Then off to a different hosp for Chest x-rays.

Just waiting for results now.

For my medical, done last year in NS I did not have a breast check done. I was asked for a recent smear (pap) test result. I had brought mine with me. If I had not, then I was to undergo another one.

FYI mammograms are routinely done in NS for ladies over the age of 40. They can be done at our local hospital but there is also a mobile unit which comes to our local area every few months too. Breast screening is recommended every 12 months in for age 40-49, and every 2 years for age 50-69 and either annually or every 2 years for ladies over the age of 70. You do not pay for the screening, just show your NS health card.

Smear (pap) testing is recommended every 2 years for people with previous negative results and annually for others. I had attend my local hospital and was somewhat surprised that they showed me my 'internals' on a large plasma screen whilst carrying out the procedure . This procedure was also carried out free-of-charge.
