Medical - nodule on lung
HI Guys, just caught this thread.
We are Dee, Gary and Finn and I am the main applicant on the skilled woker programme.
We had medicals in May 08 and then 3 weeks ago got a not to state that they had seen a nodule on husbands lung.
They have asked for sputum specimens and are screening for TB
Hubby is non smoker , up to date will all vaccines etc.
Obviously we are worried sick, we have not been told anything part from the tests that are needed ,then repeat Chest xray. THis has added 10 weeks on to what we thought as going to be good news. And then the results etc have to be sent to LHC.
The LHC have had our passports since april, and we have gone with an immigration consultant.
Our deadline is May 09, if it is active TB then the treatment is 12/12 duration, then bang goes our deadline.
Any advice....
Cheers
Dee

Sputum culture is a standard approach for the applicants from endemic territories or who have radiological evidence of parenchyma changes in their lungs (note that such nodular changes even though most likely due to TB exposure, could also have other etymology). The culture test takes anywhere between 2-3 months.
The best course of action is just to play the waiting game, u have no other options. What you could do though, if your husband had CXR done in the past, find them and bring them to your DMP. What CIC is looking for on those films is the evidence that there had been no interval changes, because if there were, that is most likely active process and requires treatment. Treatment ranges anywhere from 6-25 months, depending on a number of factors, and in your case there is no need to worry at this stage. Your CXR is clear, and you probably lived with you husband for number of year, and thats the best proof of his inactive TB. Hang in there, u'll be fine, trust me

HI
Thanks for that.
If he has had tb exposure, but it is inactive (i.e the sputum is negative)
does that mean we have a chance?

Hi,
Inactive TB wont harm your application but your hubby has to be under medical surveillance in canada.
good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for that . We are not sure what the nodule is.
My hubby was a fireman , he was retired aged 36 due to smoke related asthma, he is now a builder.
He never had a any time off with illness when this was found, has never had an attack, and has been a builder since retiring 3 years ago, and has never had a day off.
I have been assured that the nodule is not sinister, and we have the xray and report here.
The waiting is driving us mad though,as we don't know what he has
