Hi-
I just received a work permit today that's restricted(can't work
at child care, primary&secondary school, health svcs).
However, on the REMARKS:
"MUST UNDERGO IMMIGRATION MEDICAL EXAMINATION WITHIN 90 DAYS."
I also received a separate packaging saying that i should go get medical
exam.
But why?! I'm a South Korean citizen, but for the past 12 months,
I only lived in the U.S. Plus i'm not planning on working at
child care, primary&secondary school or health svc.
Oh, I obtained the work permit as a common-law partner of a
foreign skilled worker. I already had a study permit.
What should I do? I don't wanna pay to get medical exam done if i don't have
to.
Plus, on the form it says that everyone in my family should get it.
Does that mean my partner has to as well? But he already entered Canada
from the U.S. and had no problem about medicals.
Please let me know. Thanks.

If it says do a medical exam, then do a medical exam.

well, i think CIC wants me to have medicals, since
I didn't tell CIC where I lived past 12 months.
(i wrote down S. Korea for last permanent residence, because
I was on a student visa in the u.s., not a permanent resident)
so in this case, do u think i can call them up and ask them to
change the conditions?
Also, on the manual, if you require medical exam, you have to
pass that first to get the work permit ,but in my case, I already
got the work permit. (?!)
When I do the medical exam, are they going to send me another
work permit that has no restrictions?(work at child care, etc.)
If I do the medical exam right now, do I need to do it again
when I apply for PR later? (assuming that I stay in Canada the whole time)
Thanks!!

If you won't do medicals in time prescribed in your work permit conditions
then such may be invalidated.
And yes - you will have to redo medicals when asked during your PR
application process as they are different from ones done for temporary
permits.

I don't think so - the remarks indicating that you are required to undergo
medicals are most likely not connected to the limitations of your work
permit. But it is hard to say without knowing all details of your case.

Thank you for your reply.
Do you think I can go to CIC district office in Toronto
and show them the proof that i lived in the u.s. for past 12 months,
and they'll waive the medicals for me??
If I remember correctly, CIC once told me there was an office
on st. clair in toronto that i can go into....

Your persistence in trying to avoid doing the medicals requested makes
it sound as if there is some medical condition that you are trying to
hide.

Nope. I'm a healthy 20 year old male.
I just don't want to waste $140 and my time.
I bet you wouldn't want to either.

It's a part of the process. If CIC ask for it, you do it, or forfeit
what you've paid already. Since you're this far along, it doesn't make
a lot of sense to avoid it.
