Default Re: Medical exam question - Blood pressure

The average and normal blood pressure is 120/80 by medical journals.

The pressure that they start to tell you to change lifestyle can be around the 85-90 mark. The bottom pressure is the one that is when your heart is at rest and is the more important figure (so I believe)

High blood pressure over a prolonged period can damage your heart.

If you have what they term borderline (85-95) or high blood pressure which I believe is over 95 - upwards then they do extra tests.

One of these is to do a cardiogram, which is the cables on your chest and it measures your heart over 15 mins on a graph. This can determine if there is a problem with your heart, along with other tests.

As long as you have no damage and are therefore not a risk to the health system - - I don't think that they will turn you away. High Blood pressure affects a lot of people and they can be treated with tablets.

There are a few things to do to lower it which I have successfully. Biggest killer is Salt. I have virtually cut it out altogether - you do need some - but try to avoid it and keep to the 5-6 g per day.

Also drink plenty of water, moderate your alcohol, lose weight, getter fitter and try to relax and de-stress.

All said it is hard, but more important than the immigration it will stand your health in good stead wherever life takes you .
