Default Medical Advice

Hi guys. Got a quick question.

When I had my medical I had slightly high blood pressure, so I went back to my doc to discuss it and we've been monitoring it for a month now. It is just over the 140/90 on average so the doc wants to keep doing some tests see if I need to start medication, that kind of thing.

BUT the Doc who did the medical said if it was above 140/90 she wants a report from a Cardiologist, which is not how Hypertension is dealt with these days at all and as such any referral would have to be private.

Here's the kicker. as my application is via the spousal sponsorship route, this isn't even going to affect my application but over a month later, the Medical Doc still hasn't submitted the completed forms.

Obviously for my own piece of mind I want to get my BP down a little, but (and here's the question) should I just tell the Medical Doc, this is irrelevant for my VISA application just complete the forms and send them off please.

I am under the impression a spousal application would only be refused on medical grounds if I had some communicable disease such as TB.

I don't think they refuse spouses with TB, they might delay their visa issuance, or let them in to Canada and put them under medical surveillance/treatment - but that's nowt to do with your BP and I don't know the answer to that

Have a look through the DMP handbook, you might be able to figure out what the DMP should be doing with a high BP in an excessive demand exempt case from the forms s/he will complete.

thanks Biiiiink from reading that she should have just sent off the forms, and shouldn't be waiting for any specialist reports as I'm excessive demands exempt.

which backs up what I thought.

thanks!

page 43 (after amendments) reads

"If the applicant is NOT excessive demand
exempt and a diagnosis of hypertension is confirmed,
a serum creatinine must be reported. If this test is
abnormal, or the hypertension is not controlled, then
an appropriate specialist’s report is required to
assess hypertension plus target-organ damage"

haha I was about to post the same thing.

the annoying thing is I had the creatinine tests done and it came back normal. I just fired off an e-mail to her secretary as she had no idea this handbook existed. I'm seriously beginning to wish I'd gone somewhere where they knew what they were doing!

woohoo got it sorted!

I sent her an e-mail linking her to the DMP handbook after a phone conversation where she said she'd never heard of excessive demand exemption! ffs and I paid you £260 to not know what you're talking about! I surprised myself that I stayed calm, maybe working on a helpdesk for 7 years is finally coming in handy for something haha!

got this reply when I got into work

"Thanks for getting in touch and drawing your ‘excessive demand exempt’ status to our attention. I’m pleased to report that Dr X has agreed to sign off your medical as it currently stands. Any results forwarded to us by your GP will then be sent to the Canadian High Commission as a supplement to your original paperwork.

As I am presently awaiting the return of your medical papers, it is unlikely that I will manage to mail your medical off today. Please accept my apologies for this. I hope to complete the final administration work on Monday morning, and mail your medical on the same day by first class recorded mail. I will drop you a line to advise you of the tracking number, unless you instruct me otherwise.

Best wishes for a pleasant weekend."
