Hi All
I posted this msg once before but didnt get any replies. So I am gonna try one more time, pls bear with me. here we go again
My friend had been asked to report for medical surveillance when he lands. He landed in Toronto a couple of days ago and called the health authorities to fix an appointment. he told them that he will be staying in canada only for a week and then come back for good after a year. They told him that he can undergo the medical after a year because he will require follow up visits. he checked 3 different ppl in the heal dept and all of them told the same. They said that it will not affect his PR status but will only delay getting his citizenship. can anybody who has undergone this shed some light on this. Is it ok to do the medical surveillance after a year.
Cheers

I'm not an expert but I think he should get some kind of paper
that would confirm the fact that he did show up for this medical
thing after he landed and was told to show up again, when he's
back for good.

Thanks for the response. My friend did ask them for a written confirmation but was told not to worry abt it and it should not affect his PR status. You know sometimes you ask for something a few times and they keep saying it is not required and you are in a position where you cant really push them for it, this is one of those situations I guess.

That's all nice.

Actually, this is in breach of his immigration and his PR status could
be void. Unless he is prepared to settle in Canada, he should NOT land.
And before you ask 'why didn't the people I spoke to say this', the answer
is simple. They're medical authorities, not immigration authorities.
If he's not prepared to move to Canada for another year, then that's
when he should land. Of course, since his visa will likely expire BEFORE
that time, then he should get his affairs orgainised in his home country
earlier, so he can move to Canada before the visa expires.
