Default masters equiv?

Hi
I have a professional qualification in CIMA ( Chartered Institute of Management accountants) which the CIMA website states is equivalent to a Masters Degree

Can I choose Masters Degree for my highest level of education based on this? Should I get paperwork from CIMA to back that claim up??

Many thanks

N

Again, not an expert, but I don't think so. CIMA is what it is. Even if it is a similar standard as a Master degree it isn't one. Claiming to have a degree you don't actually have might cause problems.

Hi Howefamily

OH has a ACA qualifications and we didnt claim as a Masters as it isnt truly a Masters Degree.

We enclosed a letter explaining that the ACA was an extension of the Bachelor DEgree - never queried it at all

Might count as a "non-university certificate" though.

The trouble is that there is no box to tick for professional qualification.. dont know what to do. I dont want to lose out on education points because of this.

perhaps I should contact CIMA to see what they say, they are always advertising that they are a global qualification, perhaps they have something in writing that I can attach to my application. Thanks all

Unless you actually have a masters, you can't claim points for it no matter what your qualification is equivalent to. As an example, a NVQ Level 4 is apparently equivalent to a degree, but somebody with one would only be able to claim for a non university diploma, and not a degree.

So if your CIMA took 3 years, you'd claim for a 3 year diploma so 22 points.

Hope that helps.

With respect, it doesn't matter what they say, it matters what CIC and Canadian credential recognition authorities say.

To the OP

When we completed PR application we put OH's Primary, Junior, Secondary, 6th form and University (Age 5 - 21 =16 years) then explained that he entered a training contract with a practice to obtain the ACA which we described as an extension of his BSc

I appreciate this, I just want to tick the right boxes to get the recognition that CIMA deserves but also to ensure that its the qualification that CIC recognise.
