Living in Windsor and working in Detroit

Hi guys,
I'm sure there are some people who live in Windsor and work in Detroit by
commuting between the two countries everyday. I'm thinking of doing the same
thing. My question is:
1. When landing in Canada for the first time as a PR, what should I tell the
Canadian immigration officer about my intention to keep working in Detroit while
living in Windsor??
2. Will problems arise in the future when I try to apply for Canadian citizenship in
the future??
Thanks.

John, How you are going to enter US everyday? Any NAFTA related docs or any other
permit is needed?
Please share your expertise. Thank you.

NAFTA provisions apply only to citizens of Canada and US, not to permanent
residents. To be able to cross the border every day and work in US you need proper
American visa like H1B.

John,
If you want to live in Windsor and work at Detroit, then your intention of immigrating to Canada might have some doubt. Although many landed immigrants (with H1-Bs) and citizens (with either H1-Bs or TNs) live in Windsor and work at Detroit, it will probably depend on the Officer, who handles your landing, how he/she interprets your intention. However, there would be no problem for your citizenship application in the future, because part of any day (specially if you return at night to home in Canada) you spend in Canada is considered a day in Canada.

Hey Andrew -
You said in your earlier post that people who land maybe asked a question like: did
you already terminate employment in the United States?
It was kind of implied (I think at least) that if you answer no to that question -
then one might doubt if the person trully wants to live in Canada......
Can you elaborate on that?

Hi Gosia,
It is and will not be as black and white as you would like to see it. There are more
factors in addition to the US job keeping or termination issue when assessing
person's intentions during landing process - and believe me, most experienced
immigration officers will be able to make the determination of your intentions.
If you really want to live in Canada immediately or within reasonable time after
landing then you will have no problems with landing process, but if your intentions
are to keep your US job and live in US after going through the Canadian landing
process just to "activate" your PR status then you should expect troubles. No matter
what story you will "invent" for the amusement of the immigration officers you
should know that they already heard it hundreds (if not thousands) of times, so
don't even bother.
