List of Possessions - how detailed?

All:

Could you please advise how much detail is needed in the list of possession for Canadian landing? My possessions are primarily in the following categories: 1) Electronics, 2) Books, and 3) Clothes.

Do I need to list the titles of all the books and the description of each article of clothing I'm shipping to Canada?

Thank you,

Alwin

I just put 'All boxes of DVDs and books as shipped, total $5000'. That was fine.

For electronics, or other relatively expensive items, I'd list them individually with serial numbers if possible.

Hi Alwin

All of the info you need to know is enclosed in this WIKI page for Goods to Follow

Hope this helps - another thing you could do is do a forum search for Goods to Follow and you should get any questions asked in there.

X boxes of books, value Y. A boxes of DVDs, value B. Electronics and items with serial numbers have to be listed individually, but everything else can be lumped in larger categories. Clothes, books, boxes, ornaments, stuffed toys etc.

I went through customs yesterday with the manifest list from the packing company, i.e. no serial numbers and just a brief description of contents. The whole process took 2 minutes from walking into customs to leaving.

However if I'd read harder before leaving I would have had all the documents on my person at customs I just popped in to the office as its next to my work when the fax arrived from the shippers saying the container was here.
