Default Less than 30 days left on my visa | Extend Your Stay in Canada as a Visitor

Hey everyone,

What are my options if there is less than 30 days on my visa and i want to stay as a visitor?

I've read about this restoration of status talked about here: Guide 5551 - Applying to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in Canada

But i have not broken any conditions yet? Is this what I need to apply for?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Use this link and follow the instructions. No need for restoration of status. While its suggested you apply 30 days before status expires you can still submit if less than 30 days. Note the difference in processing times between a paper application and the online application and ensure you understand what Implied Status is and what it means.
Apply – Extend your stay

Thank you Former Lancastrian - so in the link I provided, where it states

If your current temporary resident status is still valid you can apply for an extension of your stay providing you apply at least 30 days before the expiry date of your current status.
It more of a guideline?

Guideline or recommendation. Legally as long as it is received before midnight on the date of expiry then CIC will process it. That is not something I recommend people do. Submit it as early as possible.

One more question: Will applying for a Visitor Visa under the extend a stay stream have any affect on my PR application? Which is currently waiting for a PNP nomination to come through

Hiya,

Just wondering if you got your visitor status approved and for how long? I'm in the same boat. I applied a day before my work permit expired to change my status as a visitor. So nerve racking being on implied status....

I got approved for a year this last time. I always asked for 6 months prior to that. Processing time was 92 days for me! So definitely get it in as early as possible, especially if implied status makes you nervous
