Default Leaving Canada After Landing

I am a U.S. citizen that be landing in Canada with PR status in the
upcoming months. After landing, is there a waiting period before I
can travel by car back to the U.S. to visit family? Or instead, am I
required to obtain a travel document?

Thanks for any insight.

No waiting period. However, it might be prudent to wait till you get your PR card, which you get a few weeks after landing.

There is no waiting period. If you do have to leave Canada before your PR card arrives, I think you will still be able to enter Canada based on your Landing Document if you travel by Car (I asked the immigration officer this very question when landing in Toronto in Feb this year and the response was positive).

Alternatively, you could provide a friends address in Canada for the PR card to be mailed to. Your friend could then send it to you once it's been received.

Hope this helps.

You must apply for the PR card. Takes about three weeks. This is a travel
doc.
See: www.cic.gc.ca for further information.
