I am qualified in Canada and in England, and I have never taken such a test

We are off topic now- LSAT is a normal requirement to enter a law program at university here and in the USA. IELTS is as tough on comprehension and expression as LSAT or GMAT. The reason all you mother tongue English speakers have to take the test is that many people exaggerate their competence. I had to take it for a license and I did not like it either but had no choice.

I think anyone with a degree from an English speaking country shouldn't need to do it at the very least. Even though my degree is in Music my lecturers were still very strict about written work.

That said, I do agree that people exaggerate their competence. It's just such an expensive test, and you have to do it before you know if you stand any chance of getting PR, thats the main thing I have against it.

Offer of the test practice materials is still available if anyone wants to prep for their IELTS test. It is worth it, especially to see the mark scheme for the listening, which is quite strict. I will post the book and CD if you PM me your details.

Wife just phoned, IELTS results are in!

Speaking 9
Listening 8.5
Writing 8.5
Reading 7.5

Gives us 16 points for language making a total application score of 74 points!
Going through the final forms tonight - photocopying them all at work tomorrow and then mailing our application on Saturday! Then we can get our lives back for a bit!

Hi congrats! Ours was overall 8.5 too, although tbh I'd have settled for the one high and 3 moderates we needed for 67+ points. Still 74 gives us a nice strong amount of points now.

Mailing application tomorrow, only 500ft of bureaucracy stands between us and Canada now!
