Landing in Vancouver Aug 09
Arrived in Vancouver (family of 5) at around 2 in the afternoon and after passport control we were directed to the immigration office in the airport to activate our PR. You take a ticket and sit and wait (approx 30 mins as they were quite busy- about 20 people waiting and 5 stations open). When we were finally called we were prepared for a lengthy interview containing questions about why we had return tickets (we plan to make the move permanently in 2011) proof of funds, goods to follow etc but actually the only thing the officer asked was how much we were bringing in cash for our holiday, and whether our kids were who they say they are! Oh and an address to send the PR cards to. Nothing about proof of settlement funds of goods lists, which incidentally had taken me ages to do. Guess it all depends on who you get on the day. She merely stamped the passports and said 'Welcome to Canada'. No one either at customs to ask, so we walked straight into the country. Completely painless! Then spent a very enjoyable 2 weeks figuring out area to live in, schools and Universities (chose Coquitlam) and generally soaking up lovely Vancouver. Cant wait to get there proper in summer '11

You may want to get a goods to follow list stamped, otherwise you could end up paying tax and duty on incoming shipments, then having to prove it was yours to start with, which is not easy without receipts.

I wondered how long it would take before I found you on here!
Glad it went well, it did for us in Calgary too, all that proof of funds worry for nowt!
Are you on the "at risk" list at work Steve?
